We were fortunate enough to be chosen by Tammy Taylor Nails to assist with the design of their new salon at New Salt Rock City in Salt Rock. For those of you who are not familiar with the brand, Tammy Taylor Nails is a leader in the nail and beauty industry with over 100 salons in South Africa! We feel incredibly privileged to have had the opportunity to work with their team and enjoyed the process immensely.
As excited as we were to get started on this project, the timeline was tight and we had a small space to work with. Our team had to utilize and leverage every bit of space that we had in order to make the most of this exciting project.
One of my main challenges was to make anyone entering the VIP room feel like exactly that – a very important person! The challenge, however, was that this room did not feel great at all. It was small, closed off and was anyone with claustrophobia’s worst nightmare.
From day one, we made sure we were aware of the flow and processes of the Tammy Taylor business and what their team’s needs are. This allowed us to create beautiful, mindful and useful solutions to their space from the very beginning.
I incorporated forest wallpaper to the design of the space to create depth and a calm feeling in the small space. In addition to this, we made use of beautiful diamond cut mirrors to open up the space efficiently and to emphasise the luxury that Tammy Taylor Nails is.
Suppliers & Artists Involved:
I love bringing the work of local artists into my designs. A perfect fit for Tammy Taylor, was the beautiful and elegant light pendants created by South Africa’s very own Astrid Dahl. Astrid’s work is delicate, and breathtaking. This along with a dusty pink and rosegold colour palette allowed us to keep a feminine and soft touch within the small space.
In addition to Astrid’s work, we also incorporated handmade basins from local potter – Lindsay Scott.
What we learnt:
The client was very involved with the project from the beginning which gave as insights to the details of the business, what their needs and requirements are and how we can make the space a beautiful, relaxing space for the client but also a productive and efficient space for the employee.
Great team work allowed us to rise to the challenge of a tight deadline, and for that – thank you to all who was involved in the project! A special thanks to Indlovu Construction who worked seamlessly with our team!
