My go to accessories for a beautifully finished home

My clients often ask me how they can freshen up their homes without re-doing the entire place. While it is important for the overall design and furniture layout to be done professionally to keep the space flowing and living optimally, decorating and accessorising your home is usually where clients can have a bit of fun and get creative.

I have a couple of go-to accessories that I love and always incorporate into my designs to keep a fresh, modern but sophisticated touch.

1. Wooden ladder for blankets & towels

Wooden ladders for blankets and towels are great in almost any space! They don’t take up much room, look great and are functional. It is a great place to store a throw blanket for when you feel like cozying up (just add a glass of wine and a good book, and your evening in is all set!).

2. Bringing seasons indoors

A fun way to change up your home is to keep with the seasons. During summertime I love bringing summer into the home. You can include easily accessible plants – such as leaves from your garden in your home. Natural, organic materials such as stone, sunlight, plant life and woods are all being used to remind us of the outdoors – indoors!

  • Large plants like elephant ears are a great way to make a statement and create a focal point in a room.
  • Smaller plants and florals are a great accessory to soften up a room and to give it a friendly feel.

One of my favourite local potters, Lindsay Scott makes beautiful vases that compliments almost all florals. Depending on the look you are going for he often creates custom designs for me. This also helps keep the design unique and exclusive.

3. Throw pillows!

Who said you need to buy a new couch to get a fresh look in your home? Throw pillows are a fantastic way to change things up in your home. They’re easy to change and relatively inexpensive!

Not only do throw pillows allow you to add fresh new colours to your home (without having to repaint or refurbish anything) but they create a cozy and homey feel. We have a great selection of fabrics at our offices should you require any help getting pillows made exclusively. Alternatively, my favourite go to brand is Hertex!

4. Woven baskets

Exclusive hand woven baskets with different shapes, textures and colours can either be a focal point, filling an empty space or be functional – storage for books, laundry and toys! They also bring a natural element to the home which is fresh and fun!

You don’t have to spend a ton of money to get a fresher look in your home. Do you have any tips or go to accessories that I may have missed?
